57. Punishing The Bodyguards
Lucas’s eyes lingered on her back until her figure disappeared.
He sat there for a while, slightly stunned by Heidi’s outburst. The fury he saw in her eyes… Heidi wasn’t just bluffing that she would take Blake Harrison to the authorities.
Where did that confidence come from?
A few hours later…
Inside the Harrison Mansion.
Lucas sat on a couch in the living room of his quarters, and standing before him were twelve bodyguards whose heads were lowered.
Among them was a wounded bodyguard whose head was wrapped in a thick cloth.
With both arms spread on the couch’s headrest and one leg placed atop the other one, the man exuded fury and dread, the suppressing atmosphere surrounding him suffocating the bodyguards.
“You were trained to protect lives, but you’ve turned into criminals. I am highly disappointed.”
His low tone filled with rage made the bodyguards shudder. They all knelt at once.
“Young Master, please forgive us.”
“You had the guts to hurt Heidi.” Lucas’s dark eyes fell on the wounded bodyguard. “Has it ever crossed your mind the consequences you’ll bear?”
Shaking in fear, the guy lowered his head and cowered. “Young Master, I was selfish. However, I- I was following instructions. I would never think of ever harming the former Young Madam.”
“Whose instructions?” Lucas narrowed his eyes.
The bodyguard opened his mouth to speak while hesitating, then the sound of rushed footsteps interrupted him.
“Lucas, Lucas, is everything alright?” Tracy’s voice was frantic and anxious. ” I heard you’re punishing all the bodyguards. Did they cause any trouble?”
Tracy sat beside him, her eyes flashing with worry. Lucas’s rage was so evident that Tracy wasn’t spared from the repressing feeling too.
“Please tell me what’s wrong?” She softened her voice, holding his hand gently. “I’m scared to see you looking like this, Lucas.”
While speaking, Tracy threw the wounded bodyguard a look, and the guy dropped his head.
Lucas ignored her, his anger at the bodyguard prominent. “I’m listening. Whose instructions?”
The bodyguard, who had collected himself, gave Tracy a secret look. He shook his head and stammered, “It- It was the Master. He- He ordered me.”
Knowing that mentioning Blake’s name might be safer, the bodyguard lied through his teeth.
Tracy lowered her head, a look of relief washing over her face. ‘That was a narrow escape.’
“You mean Dad ordered you to kill Heidi?” Lucas’s fist clenched uncontrollably.
The bodyguard gulped and bobbed his head rapidly like a lizard’s, while the other bodyguards stared at him in shock.
“Y-Yes, Young Master.”
The way Lucas Harrison looked made them believe the man could murder them on the spot.
When he spoke, his tone was vengeful.
“Each one of you has turned ungrateful, biting the hands of your Master. From now on, you will live as normal people… After receiving punishment.”
“Young Master, please don’t do this to us.”
“We will only listen to you from now on.”
“Please let us amend our mistakes. We will go to the former Young Madam and apologize to her.”
“An apology won’t do for endangering her life. Get out of my sight.”
Lucas turned deaf ears to their pleas and chased them out.
While the bodyguards stood up and left in low spirits, he called back the wounded one.
“Yours is a special case.” What appeared like a sinister look flashed in his eyes.
Sweat poured down the bodyguard’s forehead and he dropped on his knees. ” Y-Young Master, please don’t-”
“What is the punishment for someone who takes another’s life?”
“A life sentence in jail.” The guy’s eyes widened with fear. “Y-Young Master, please.”
“Turn yourself in soon. Otherwise, you’ll receive a worse fate.”
At Lucas Harrison’s final words, the bodyguard’s heart sank.
Turning himself in meant taking himself to the police. Otherwise, Lucas Harrison would hunt him down and definitely do something worse.
His expression as pale as a sheet, the bodyguard looked towards Tracy for help.
Tracy was bottling in her anger, with the thought that Lucas was doing this all because of Heidi.
Hearing Lucas sentencing the bodyguard, she quickly stepped in.
She gently tugged at his arm, and in a soft silky voice she said, “Lucas, don’t you think a life sentence in jail is too small a punishment?”
“Do you have any better idea?” Lucas frowned.
“Instead of sending him to jail, why don’t we make him useful? You can let him come with me, he’s going to serve me like a servant. Every day, I’ll make sure he works nonstop. That will be more miserable than being inside jail.”
“He’s a bad guy. You wouldn’t want to be near him,” Lucas said. “If you need a personal servant, I’ll get you one.”
“I’m just helping you to observe justice, Lucas. Heidi is your former wife, no matter what, she’s related to us. These bodyguards are wrong. I want to avenge her too,” Tracy said firmly, putting on a determined look.
Her action looked truly commendable, and she deserved an Oscar for having the gentlest and most caring heart.
“Fine.” Lucas rose to his feet. “Make sure he lives a miserable life.”
“I will, Honey. Thank you.”
Hearing her call him that name he’d only heard from Heidi before, Lucas stiffened a bit.
Tracy’s lips curled up as she watched his figure fade away.
After making sure he was far away, she stood up and slapped the bodyguard.
“What the hell happened? Why didn’t you kill her?”
The bodyguard rubbed his cheek, his eyes flashing with regret “Ms. Carlson, I was so close. But the Young Master saved her.”
Tracy’s heart burned with fury, her eyes turning red. “You mean Lucas saved Heidi with his own hands?”
“That’s right.” The bodyguard touched his wounded head. “If he hadn’t appeared, I would have finished her.”
Tracy let out a curse and paced back and forth.
“Th-Thank you for saving my life, Ms. Carlson.”
“Don’t thank me yet.” Tracy clenched her fists. “From now on, your life is in my hands. If you don’t follow my instructions correctly, I’ll make sure you prefer to have been dead.”
