Shouldn’t Mess Up with My Hidden Heiress Ex-wife Chapter 56 by HusnaS

56. Get Off Her Back

From the side view of her eyes, Heidi sighted the glinting knife descending.

“Ahhhh!” She screamed with all her might, shutting her eyes.

Then a loud crash came from behind her followed by the sound of someone groaning.

In her panicked state, Heidi didn’t realize that the grip on her neck had loosened, until she felt a thud.

Turning around, her heart did a summersault as she came face to face with Lucas.

Holding a broken branch in his hand, his whole being oozed off a dark dangerous aura, his murderous eyes fixed on the bleeding guy who had passed out on the ground.

Heidi was shaken to the core, not believing her eyes.

She literally jumped on the man, hugging him tightly, her shoulders trembling with fear.

Lucas let go of the tree branch. His heart beat uncontrollably as he hugged her back.

“I- I was so scared, Lucas.” Heidi sobbed. “If you hadn’t come, would I have lost my life?”

“It’s okay. You’re safe now.” Lucas stroked her back.

As Heidi’s tears flowed freely, her whole body shaking, he pulled back and used both thumbs to wipe her tears.

In his eyes was an intense emotion, an unknown fear tugging at his chest about what would have happened to her if he hadn’t come in time.

It was as if time had stopped. They both stilled and gazed into each others’ eyes.

Heidi wanted to believe she was back in the kidnappers den and dreaming all about this.

Her fingers shaking, she reached up to touch the side of his face.

Her warm fingers against his cheek sent a strange sensation coursing through his system-

Then something snapped, bringing them back to the present.

Heidi quickly pushed him away, and Lucas put some distance from her, scratching the back of his neck.

An awkward air hung for a few seconds.

Then Lucas noticed her arm and he broke the silence. “Heidi, you’re bleeding.”

“I know.” Heidi pursed her lips. “Did you come with a car? I can’t lose my precious blood, it is rare and I might not find a donor.”

The awkward atmosphere instantly disappeared as they both focused on her wound.

“What else do you think?” Lucas replied. “That I walked all the way from the city to this place?”

Heidi glared at him. “Lucas Harrison, you’re so gutsy to even make a joke at this moment.”

Lucas didn’t know which of his words was a joke.

“My car is nearby, let’s go.” He supported her back to his car.

After walking a few distance, Heidi sighted his car covered in dust.

He helped her inside the car, then sat in the driver’s seat, and raced out of the place.

“How did you find me here?” Heidi asked.

Lucas took a few seconds to reply. Then he said, “It was a coincidence. I was just passing by.”

Heidi laughed sarcastically, putting on a look of disbelief. “It is evident that my kidnapping was a set-up. Lucas, I never knew you come to these kinds of places for sightseeing. Oh, what a splendid view.”

“Shut up. Isn’t saving you enough?” Lucas murmured.

Heidi chuckled a bit. “You mean saving me from your own father?”

Lucas frowned.

Heidi’s expression turned serious. ”

Blake Harrison was behind this, stop pretending you don’t know. Are you afraid that I can report him to the authorities?”

Lucas looked away from the road. staring at her, he replied, “No.”

Taken aback by his response, Heidi’s lips parted. “You mean I can take him to the authorities?”

“Why not?” Lucas shrugged. “He clearly put your life in danger. You have the right to seek justice for yourself.”

Heidi looked at him for a while as he drove back to the city.

Lucas wasn’t overly corrupted after all. There might be a speck of light inside the man’s heart which was as dark as the night.

But hearing his next words made her let go of every one of her initial assumptions.

“However, you can’t take him to the authorities. I’ll see what I can do.”

“What do you mean by I can’t take him to the authorities?”

“Heidi-”

“Even if he’s your father, it doesn’t give him the right to hurt me, right?” Her eyes flashed with rage. “You said it yourself that I have the right to do so.”

“Do you think you can win a case against Blake Harrison?” Lucas gave her a serious look.

“Oh, is that what you’re worried about, my most caring Ex-husband?” Heidi said with mocking realization.

Lucas went silent. “At least, I saved your life.”

“How sweet. If Blake had managed to successfully get rid of me, would you still say that?”

For several minutes, none of them spoke.

The car eventually arrived inside the city, and Lucas took her to a clinic to get her wound treated.

“No, thanks. I’m capable of caring for myself.”

Obviously, Heidi was mad at him, and she stopped him from following her inside.

Lucas, who was as stubborn, didn’t walk away.

After the nurse was done treating Heidi’s arm, he sat beside her. “You should think out of the box, Heidi. If you take the case to the authorities-”

“Are you worried about the GK Group’s reputation?” Heidi didn’t let him conclude.

Lucas’s brows furrowed. “That is part of the reason why. But I’m most worried about Grandpa.”

Hearing him mention Grandpa Winston, Heidi’s fury subsided a bit.

“Grandpa and Dad are already at odds with each other. If Grandpa hears about this, what do you think might happen?”

Grandpa Winston would surely be heartbroken, and it might have an impact on his health.

“I told you I’ll take care of it. Dad will no longer hurt you. Just let it go.”

Even Heidi was worried about Grandpa Winston. “But I’ll never forgive Blake Harrison. Damnit! Just tell Blake and Stella to get off my back!”

Heidi stood up and stormed off.
