157. Too Good To Be True
After The Meeting Was Over…
Isla walked behind Heidi down the hallway of the top floor. “Ms. Olsen, you really dealt with your uncle well. He never saw it coming that you would expose his monkey businesses while managing the Group.”
Heidi only smiled in response.
They entered her office and she sat down on the couch, looking tired.
“You’re perspiring, Ms. Olsen.” Isla brought out her hankie, carefully wiping Heidi’s sweat. “Do you want to rest before going home?”
It was almost closing time. Some of the employees were preparing to leave, in fact.
“Mm,” she hummed, rubbing her flat abdomen. “I’m starving and should stop by a restaurant.”
Heidi wouldn’t dare to eat at home, since her mother had become a detective, always scrutinizing every one of her actions.
She felt like eating dozens of meals, which must be due to her pregnancy.
Isla’s phone rang. Sitting across from Heidi, her eyes widened with disbelief and she glanced back and forth between her phone and Heidi.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’ve saved all the contact details of the Group’s past allies. Can you guess who’s calling?”
Isla quickly answered the phone without waiting for Heidi’s reply.
Her expression changed from shock to uncertainty before her eyes lit up and she muttered, “Thank you. I will let the CEO know- Yes, she is available for a meeting. Okay, I will keep in touch.”
Heidi’s heart was already beating with anticipation before Isla put down the phone. “Who was that?”
“The manager of the silk-producing company just called. They are abandoning the GK Group and they want to collaborate with us.”
The manager of the silk-producing company?
“You mean the one who abandoned the AG Group not long ago?”
“You got it right, Ms. Olsen.” Isla beamed. “Remember they are one of the AG Group’s biggest collaborators. As it turns out, our hard work has not been for nothing. Reaching out to those people is surely advantageous.”
Even the smallest collaborators ignored them. The manager of the silk- producing company was the last person Heidi expected to reach back.”
It was too good to be true.
“I know what you’re thinking, Ms. Olsen.” Isla’s joy was infectious. “But we have no time to lose. He demands an urgent meeting.”
Therefore, they decided to have the meeting in the restaurant where Heidi planned to eat dinner.
The manager of the silk-producing company was there before them. Apart from apologizing for his past unprofessional behavior, he offered a long-term commitment.
That evening, they signed a new collaboration contract.
Even as Heidi escorted the manager out of the restaurant, everything felt surreal.
“Ms. Olsen, are you going home? We left your driver at the company.”
Heidi had somewhere important to go to that’s why she’d ditched John.
“Don’t worry about me, I’ll take a taxi.”
She was about to bid Isla goodnight when someone cleared his throat.
Standing by his car was Steve staring straight at them as if he’d been there for a while.
“Oh, it is Mr. Anderson.” Isla looked from Steve to Heidi. “Ms. Olsen…”
“Hello, Girls.” Steve approached. ” Surprised to see me, huh?”
“Good evening, Mr. Anderson. When did you return?” Isla gave him a wide smile, but Heidi felt uncomfortable.
“S-Steve, you’re here. Did you follow us?”
“I have been waiting for a while, I have followed you since you left the company. Yeah, I came back today and couldn’t wait to see you.”
Steve was already opening his car’s door for them while speaking. “Let me give you a ride home.”
Isla instantly declined, blushing. “Mr. Anderson, I’ll take a taxi. Please go with Ms. Olsen.”
Then she hurried inside the taxi she’d already stopped, probably running away to avoid Heidi disagreeing.
