145. Her Savior
Todd’s impatience grew and he tore off the fabric of her shoulder. Heidi kicked, but he saw her action coming, catching her leg.
She no longer pleaded with him to let her go, resorting to fighting to the last shred of the energy remaining in her.
Heidi gripped the rod and raised it high. The man was ready to block the rod’s attack, and she punched his eyes with the other hand, using the distraction to her advantage.
“Argh!” His groans sounded more like a scream.
Todd staggered and she pushed him away, darting for the door that led to the stairs. He soon recovered from the pain and came after her, blocking her at the door’s entrance.
“Do you know that the more you run, the more I want you?” He once again grabbed her, curling his fingers around her neck.
Heidi gasped for air, struggling to breathe properly.
“Now we’re gonna do it the hard way.” His voice was low and dangerous. He grabbed her hair backward, tilting her head, leaning forward to seal her lips.
Heidi spat in his face.
“Shit! Damnit!” The man let go of her, pushing her hard and her back
slammed against the wall.
Heidi blanked out, the dizziness in her head returning multifold. Pain shot through her back and she bit her lips hard, holding the remnants of her tattered clothes protectively around her chest.
When he reached out to grab her this time, she missed a few steps, staggering backward. Her ankle twisted, making her let out a muffled scream.
The pain in her stomach returned as she tumbled down the stairs, her bones cracking inside.
“Haha! I told you to be obedient! Now see what you have done to yourself!”
He neither caught her from falling, following her down the stairs, in fact, marveling at her plight.
“Let’s see if you can still fight for long.”
Heidi got to her feet, limping, and heading back to the elevator, hoping it would miraculously open.
Her energy failed her halfway through, and she slumped on the floor.
The man towered above her, a triumphant smile on his face. “Candy, game over,” he said, reaching out to pick her up.
Heidi shuffled back until her back hit the wall, curling herself in a corner. Her heart no longer raced in fear, as if her whole being was giving up.
With no more energy to fight, Heidi felt as if she would pass out again.
Then distant noises reached her ears.
Loud sounds came from the elevator, the machines waking up to life.
Before either she or the man could register it, the doors slid open. A passing wind breezed past and all she could hear was the sound of bones cracking.
Through her blurry vision, the tall figure of a man clad in a dark suit was mauling the man only wearing a towel.
A tear slid down Heidi’s cheek, sighing in relief and wondering who her savior was.
But she was too tired to leave her eyes open. Letting them close, she listened to the lunatic man’s growls which sounded like music to her ears.
Then more footsteps approached from the elevator. There were other people in the hallway with them.
Heidi couldn’t open her eyes to see who they were.
As the dizziness overtook her and she slipped in and out of consciousness, she felt someone scooping her up, calling out her name.
“Heidi, wake up.” He patted her cheek, forcing her to stay awake. “Can you hear me, Heidi?”
Heidi didn’t need to open her eyes to know who the person was. Despite his voice sounding like a distant call in her ears, the familiar scent clung to her senses.
“You… Lucas.” Summoning up the last bit of strength she had left, Heidi forced her eyes open.
“Yes, it’s me. Sorry, I came late.” He used his thumb to wipe her tears, caressing her cheek.
Lucas?
No, it’s impossible.
Heidi shook her head in disbelief, her heart tightening up.
How did Lucas find her in this kind of place? Was she dreaming?
Yet, more tears slid down her cheek, an even greater fear gripping her chest. The fear of what would have happened to her if he hadn’t come.
The fear that she might not even survive in the hands of that strange lunatic to see the next day.
