139. Loving To The Point of Obsession
“I have many dreams but I’m ready to compromise them all because of this baby, won’t you do the same? D’you want me to raise it alone as a single parent?”
Tracy eyed her parents, signaling to them to help her out.
“Son-in-law, she is right,” Tracy’s father butted in. “This marriage will benefit you both. Sit down and think about it. You must still be in a denial stage at the sudden news that you’ll soon become a father.”
“Remember the many years Tracy has spent waiting for you. Now that she’s even pregnant with your child, you won’t abandon her, will you?” Added Tracy’s mother.
When Lucas left the house, Tracy followed him to the parking lot, letting her silent sobs reach his ears.
Like a broken stick, she looked fragile and irredeemably weak, clinging onto his arm as if he was her only pillar of support.
“Lucas, you won’t abandon our baby, will you? You’re the only person we have, you can’t be mad at me because I never planned for it to happen. Remember I was also a victim.”
“Would you rather prefer I abort this baby?” She stopped walking, staring at him with wide teary eyes. “Although my health is very weak and an abortion will cost me my life, if that’s what you want, I’ll take this baby out.”
Lucas’s instant response was, “No! You won’t dare kill a life, will you?”
Tracy hugged him, crying. “But I feel hopeless, Honey! You always leave me confused! If you don’t want to continue the relationship with me, at least, don’t abandon our baby!”
While crying, a sweet vanilla fragrance traveled from his shirt into her nostrils, bombarding her senses.
Recalling Heidi wearing the same kind of fragrance, Tracy’s eyes darkened, her arms tightening around the man protectively.
Had he been with Heidi before he arrived here?
“Our baby needs you the most at this moment. Please don’t abandon us, Lucas.”
Lucas pulled away, bringing up his hand to wipe her tears, however, his hand didn’t reach her face. And the dark look returned into his eyes.
“Stop speaking about a child that we’re not even sure exists.”
Tracy went still at his words, her tears freezing. “W-What do you mean, Honey? Didn’t I send you the test results on the phone after going to the Lab? I also did a home test and it turned out positive.”
Lucas didn’t speak for a while, his eyes accessing her features as if seeking some hidden truth, his gaze making her uncomfortable.
Then he said, “Follow me.”
He pulled her into his car, making her sit in the passenger’s seat.
“What is wrong, Honey? Where do you want to take me?” Tracy put up a confused front, despite her heart beating uncomfortably.
“To the hospital.” Lucas started the car. “I will confirm it myself.”
And he drove straight to the hospital without waiting for her consent.
Tracy stared at his side profile, her heart sinking.
Thinking that the pregnancy would make Lucas dote on her the way he did before, was she hoping too much?
Ever since the engagement scandal, he’d grown cold towards her. A coldness that would have made him do something worse if she hadn’t suddenly discovered that she was pregnant.
When they arrived at the hospital, the lab technicians carried out the job swiftly, the Doctor even did an ultrasound.
“Congratulations, Mr. Harrison. Ms. Carlson’s pregnancy is two weeks old. Both mother and child are in good condition.”
Yet, Lucas never smiled nor feigned happiness, his eyes staring past the wall, his stoic expression giving way to a look of regret.
“Lucas, I know we’re both not prepared for this baby,” Tracy murmured after leaving the Doctor’s office. “You won’t abandon me and our baby, will you?”
She kept repeating the same word, hoping for assurance. Her pitiful state would make any heart tremble, but not the heart that had once hated and loved because of her.
“Why should I?” He said in a displeased tone. “I never shun my responsibilities.”
“In that case, can I move into the Villa with you?” She’d never let go of any opportunity to be near him.
Why not?
Even many years of pretense would become real if one persisted. Tracy had never pretended in the first place.
She loved him to the point of obsession.
“I heard it’s more healthy for the baby’s growth if the father and mother live harmoniously.”
