124. Gaining Allies
After her uncle left, Heidi retained a normal look.
“You make me speechless, Heidi.” Steve looked lovestruck. “I never knew the always reserved girl has this mischievous side. Old habits don’t die easily, do they?”
Heidi knew he was referring back to the days they were at kindergarten. “Yeah. They never die, I guess.”
Steve chortled at her response, giving her a doting look. “I’m off to make some connections. You should also do the same.”
“Good luck.”
As soon as Steve left, Heidi longed to pick up the wine glass and she reached for it when a middle-aged man approached her with a young man behind him.
Heidi had never met him before, so she wondered why he was giving her an inquisitive look.
“Young Lady, why do I have a feeling that you look familiar? I can’t help but compare your beauty and aura to someone’s,” The middle-aged man said.
“Oh, you flatter me.” Heidi gave him a smile. “I am new in the business circle, so you might have mistaken me for someone else.”
“Not really.” The young man butted in. “My Boss has been watching you for a while now. He thinks you share a great resemblance with the late Madam Olsen.”
“Are you perhaps related?” Asked the middle-aged man. “Seeing you feels like I’m back to those days when everyone used to admire the beautiful and talented Madam Olsen.”
Heidi didn’t doubt their words or think they had hidden intentions. Growing up, a lot of people had said she looked more like her grandmother.
So she admitted to the men. “You’re right. The late Madam Olsen is my Grandma.”
“Goodness!” The man expressed surprise despite his earlier assumptions. “Young Lady, it is a pleasure to meet you. Your Grandmother was a smart businesswoman, always by her husband’s side. Back in those days, they built the AG Group and ruled the business world together. I was only a boy.”
Then a thought seemed to come to the man as his happy expression turned into a frown of confusion.
He stepped forward to make sure Heidi was the only one hearing his words. ” Tell me, Young Lady. Are you the hidden heiress everyone has been speaking about?”
Heidi only smiled, confirming his assumption.
“So you are the girl who was treated unjustly by Harold Olsen!” The man exclaimed. “Who isn’t aware of Harold Olsen’s cunningness in the business circle?”
Heidi feigned indifference by letting out a soft laugh. “It is only a small misunderstanding within the AG Group which will be cleared up soon.”
“Young Lady, such a matter can’t be called a small misunderstanding. Harold Olsen has gone too far. It turns out we also have some collaboration with the Group. If the members of the AG Group remain dishonest, I see no reason to continue collaborating with them.”
Not only the middle-aged man, but also the other businessmen and women inside the hall were saying the exact words which didn’t miss Heidi’s ears, all expressing their displeasure at Harold Olsen’s dishonesty.
“Young Lady, don’t worry.” The middle -aged man continued, “You worked hard for that small brand and you deserve a reward as big as becoming the Group’s CEO. In the business world, we always prefer honesty over friendship. Harold Olsen won’t get away with this.”
After the man walked away, Heidi sipped her wine slowly, reveling in the sweet and bitter taste, her lips holding a subtle smile.
Then suddenly, her hair stood on end and goosebumps spread across her skin. Feeling a cold gaze on her back, Heidi turned around and her eyes locked with Lucas Harrison’s.
He stood tall and mighty across the hall, his commanding presence pulling curious eyes and gazes of admiration like a magnet.
Beside him was a fragile-looking slender girl, her water-like features accessing the crowd innocently.
