105. Ending It All Tonight
When his eyes opened again, the exhaustion floated out of the window. Lucas’s heart was as light as a feather, and his lips pulled into a bigger smile.
Knowing that Heidi was right beside him, and all was perfect, every misunderstanding would be cleared. From now on, the same way every day, she’d wake up in his arms.
But the reality was far more brutal than the fantasy Lucas was reveling in. Light flooded through the opened window, blinding his vision.
The weight on his arm was gone, and beside him was a cold hard bed. Sitting up, Lucas realized Heidi was gone, and his heart sank and sank until his face was masked with gloom.
Not a gloom heavier than when he spotted the red spot on the bedsheet.
Picking the soft white fabric up, Lucas gave it a proper look, his heart pounding.
Was Heidi a virgin?
The realization stunned him, and it took him some seconds to react. If he wasn’t mad at himself before, then he was at this moment.
Why did he fabricate those baseless assumptions about her in his head? His wife was a virgin, which meant no other man had ever touched her before.
Because of his aversion towards her in the past, he never touched her throughout their three years of marriage.
So Heidi was a virgin.
Then was she really a gold digger?
With no sense of what he was doing, Lucas hurried down the bed and left the bedroom.
Downstairs, he met one of the maids setting breakfast on the dining table. Looking hopeful, he asked, “Where’s Heidi? Is she in the kitchen?”
“Uhm, Young Master, the former Young Madam has already left.”
Lucas’s anxiety multiplied hearing the maid’s statement. Turning around, he rushed back to the bedroom and put on proper clothes.
As he was rushing back downstairs, he met Grandpa Winston going down as well.
“Hey, Grandson, where are you off to-”
“Good morning, Grandpa.” Lucas didn’t stop to answer his question. In a flash, he left the building.
“What’s happening?” Grandpa Winston approached the maid with a big frown on his face.
“Master.” The maid cleared her throat.
“It seems the Young Master and Madam had a misunderstanding. The former Young Madam left before the sky cleared up, and the Young Master appeared mad.”
“Then it means they’re still at odds with each other.” Grandpa Winston stomped his cane on the floor, looking grumpy.
“I guess our plan did not work, Master,” Butler Luke appeared and said in a sullen voice.
Grandpa Winston was dazed for a while, gloom compounding his chest.
If their plan had worked, Heidi and Lucas should have reconciled.
But they both left, without even saying goodbye to him.
“I have another plan, don’t worry,”
Grandpa Winston murmured. “Is the lawyer ready?”
“Let me put her on the phone, Master.”
Lucas drove out of the Residential Area, heading to God-knew-where. He brought out his phone and dialed Heidi’s number several times, then he found out Heidi had blocked him again.
Lucas was beyond himself with guilt and regret, cursing under his breath. He didn’t scare Heidi off, did he?
When his phone started ringing, Lucas was a bit hopeful until he saw Tracy’s number flashing on the screen.
He pulled over at the side of the road and answered the call.
Tracy’s soft-honeyed voice came from the other end. “Honey, where have you been? I waited all day yesterday at your Villa but you didn’t show up.”
“What’s wrong?”
Tracy sounded gloomy. “Have you forgotten It’s my birthday? I’ve organized a dinner party tonight to make up for the missed celebration. You’ve got to be there, okay?”
After hanging up, a conflicted look flashed in Lucas’s eyes.
Tracy.
What was he going to do with her?
Clearly, his heart only belonged to Heidi. Recalling how his relationship with Tracy had been these past few days, he’d realized after many years that his heart felt nothing toward her but gratitude for saving his life.
Lucas resumed driving to continue his search for Heidi.
Tonight, he was going to end it all. He’d tell Tracy the truth and compensate her for everything.
