The receptionist had tactfully excused herself, leaving only Josie and Grape alone in the room.
She stood in place for a long time, seemingly entranced by something, her gaze unwavering.
Dexter didn’t have many friends, and only Calvin and Zachariah could be considered as such. As for women in high-ranking positions, they were few and far between, let alone women he could call friends.
He had lent her his customized car and they had shared dinner together in the office. Their relationship couldn’t have been merely superficial.
It was a perfectly normal situation. Given his position, it was quite usual to have about a dozen people like this around him.
However, Josie suddenly felt a sense of curiosity. She wondered about the time she wasn’t a part of his life, the people he met, and the events he encountered.
She wondered why she felt a tad upset about it.
This is ridiculous.
The dinner appeared to be quite scrumptious, with Juliette heartily indulging in the meal. However, Dexter didn’t seem to participate. much in the feast. His attention was constantly drawn to his cell phone resting on the side table, its screen remaining persistently dark.
“Are you thinking about work?” Juliette suddenly reached out, waving her hand in front of him.
Leaning back lazily, Dexter said, “No. Today’s work is already over.”
“The Dexter I knew was not a man dependent on electronic products.”
“The Juliette I knew wasn’t the type of woman who would recklessly venture into an unfamiliar city to establish a business empire.”
The two shared a knowing smile. Juliette glanced at the night scenery outside the window. “It wasn’t a rash decision. I’ve studied this for a long time. Wavery is indeed suitable for the current development path of Witherspoon Group. Oh, and I’ve also encountered a partner who fits perfectly. I’m persuading her to take on the project and collaborate with me.”
He had heard about her project. “The current person in charge of the Olsen family is Laura.”
“Right, but I wasn’t talking about her,” Juliette said to him with a mysterious smile. “By the way, this time I’ve brought something with me.”

Juliette took a small wooden box from her bag and opened it in front of him. “A year ago, when you were recuperating in Nusridge, you saw the rosary beads on my hand. It’ll bless you and keep you safe.”
As she spoke these words, her eyes were sparkling brightly.
Dexter lowered his gaze, landing on the string of rosary beads. Something crossed his mind, but it took him a moment before he spoke. “I didn’t mean for you to go through so much trouble for me.”
“Oh, it was no trouble at all. I’ve sought out the most renowned master for a blessing. Are you going to waste my good intentions by not wearing it?” Juliette immediately stood up, took his hand, and without any further ado, put it on him.
This scene unfolded before Josie, who was behind the blinds. It was particularly glaring, and for a moment, she even began to feel a pang of heartache.
She had once given Dexter a string of rosary beads, originally given to her by Claudia for her protection. At that time, she desired nothing else but Dexter, and so, she passed it on.
He had worn it for a year, but now, his wrist was bare.

“Juliette…”
Dexter hadn’t finished speaking when Juliette leaned in, her finger landing gently on his lips. She laughed softly. “Don’t reject me. Considering that I saved your life a year ago, accept this.”
It had been a year, and she had never made any requests. This was her only one.
Dexter silently bit his lip, ultimately ceasing to resist.
