108. Forget It Ever Happened
Lucas was also taken aback seeing her.
A few hours ago, he’d turned down the whole city searching for her. Yet, as she now stood in front of him with another man, several emotions swirled in his eyes.
Seeing Heidi, Tracy’s first instinct was to scream and flee, declaring her a ghost. Her face ashened and her heart pounded so hard in her chest, realizing that Heidi was alive.
Tracy’s gaze traveled from Heidi to Lucas whose eyes were fixed on each other in a trance.
As if the time had stopped, none of them moved from their spot.
“Honey…” Pretending not to notice Heidi and taking advantage of the situation, Tracy clung onto Lucas’s arm, spilling out the words, “How generous of you, StarBite is the most popular and expensive restaurant in Phoenix City. It is just a simple birthday celebration which you couldn’t attend yesterday because you were busy.”
“I’m so touched that you brought me here to compensate for not being at the party. You shower me with too much love, how can I ever repay you, Honey.”
Lucas’s eyes were only on Heidi, neither listening to Tracy’s words nor hearing what she said.
But Heidi heard each one of Tracy’s words, and the realization was like a dagger to her heart.
Realizing that Lucas had used her again, and this time even having his way with her, Heidi not only felt like a fool, she also felt like killing herself.
Glancing away from the couple, her eyes welling up, she took to her heels, rushing in the opposite direction.
“Heidi, what’s wrong- wait!” Steve tried to stop her, confused at Heidi’s drastic emotional shift. However, her figure had already disappeared in the adjacent hallway.
Seeing her hurrying away, Lucas didn’t think twice before running after her, his heart beating uncomfortably at the way Heidi stared at him.
“Honey, wait- what’s happening?”
Still acting unaware, Tracy tried to hold him back.
But Lucas pushed her out of the way and rushed after Heidi.
If it wasn’t for the wall nearby, Tracy would have staggered and fallen on the floor.
“Heidi!” Lucas called out, pounding on the washroom door. His mind told him Heidi was inside.
She couldn’t have been fast enough to leave this hallway so soon.
“Heidi,” he called out again. “Please come out. It is not what you’re thinking.”
But the only response he got was silence, then the muffled sobs coming from the washroom. Lucas panicked. He didn’t wait for her to open the door, and he barged inside the washroom.
“Heidi…”
Her solitary figure stood in front of the wide mirror, her fingers gripping the sink’s edges.
Lucas approached her cautiously, a sense of uneasiness creeping up his chest at the sound of her silent sobs.
Carefully, he reached out his hand to touch her. “Heidi, listen about Tracy
“Smack!”
Heidi attacked him with a slap, not giving him a chance to finish his words. “Why, Lucas-” Her eyes reddened with tears, her emotions flaring. “Lucas Harrison, aren’t you done torturing me already! Do you think it bothers me to see you with Tracy? Is it your mission to use your relationship with Tracy to crush me again and again?”
Why was it that whenever Lucas got intimate with her, he’d always appear in her face the next time, cuddling Tracy?
What happened today was the biggest blow Heidi could ever handle. Her pride was hurt tremendously, and she hated him for that.
“What are you saying, Heidi?” Lucas’s tone was oddly gentle, his eyes raw with emotions, not minding the slap. ” What transpired between us last night isn’t a minor thing to be attributed to a plot. Why would I want to hurt you with the special bond we shared.”
Heidi gave him an incredulous look, wiping her tears furiously. “Lucas Harrison, forget anything ever happened between us.”
